I design, build, and oversee theater and dance productions while training students to do the same. My passion for design and building are intertwined, and passing on that knowledge—while continuing to develop my own skills—is what has kept me engaged in this work throughout my career.
I grew up in New Hampshire and have been involved in the arts from a young age, starting with clarinet in elementary school and continuing through choir, band, and a cappella in high school. That early interest eventually led me to Plymouth State University, where I earned degrees in Vocal Performance & Pedagogy and Theater Design & Technology.
After graduating, I worked in New York City as a theater rigging fabricator before moving into academic production environments. I served as Scene Shop Supervisor at James Madison University and later at DePaul University, continuing to develop my experience in scenic construction and production management.
At the same time, I spent summers at Glimmerglass Festival in a range of technical roles, eventually becoming Technical Director from 2012–2014. During that period, I also completed my graduate degree in Technical Direction at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
In 2014, I moved to Phillips Academy Andover as Technical Director, and in 2018 took on the same role at Phillips Exeter Academy, where I currently work. My focus is on designing and building productions while training students to take part in that process in a meaningful, hands-on way.
Outside of the theater, my interest in building extends into design-build projects, including timber frame structures around New Hampshire. I live in Exeter, NH with my wife and daughter and spend as much time as possible outdoors.
